The Three Musketeers - Who's your favorite? by sparrowcrazy The Three Musketeers - Who's your favorite? by sparrowcrazy
Because clearly I have nothing better to do than spend one and a half hour to put this together.

I've finally decided to finish reading the Man in the Iron Mask (which has a really tedious kick off) and it managed to get me right back into my swashbuckling fandom.:P

And since this is much more interesting than rereading my geology book I had some fun comparing all the different actors portraying the heroic group.:D (Well not all, I just picked the ones I've watched, except for the BBC one that only got to be here because I needed to have Santiago Cabrera in this.:P)

In horizontal rows from top to bottom:

Aramis: Santiago Cabrera, Jeremy Irons (best Aramis ever!) , Luke Evans, Richard Chamberlain, Charlie Sheen

Porthos: ?, Gerard Depardieu, ?, Frank Finlay, Oliver Platt (Jack Sparrow cosplay.. really?)

Athos: ?, John Malkovich ( Zzzz....... the best pokerface in the history of musketeers),Matthew Macfayden, Oliver Reed, Kiefer Sutherland

D'Artagnan: ?, Gabriel Byrne (the one and only D'artagnan for me..),  Logan Lerman,
Chris O'Donell
Michael York

So if you could pick your fav actors out of these, how would the four musketeers look? Would you keep them as they are or would you mix them up?

Personally I'd Keep Gabriel Byrne and Jeremy Irons from the Man in the Iron mask but swap Depardieu and Malkovich for Oliver Reed and Frank Finlay. :D

Hard choice between the cast from Lester movies and from the Man in the Iron Mask. The films differ so much in the mood that's rather impossible to compare those portrayals. However, I'm certain in the case of Gabriel Byrne that's he is my beloved version of d'Artagnan. Well, the plot in The Man Iron Mask has almost nothing to do with the canon and the history, but no matter how much improbable it is the actors pulled it through. It pains me every time watching when they fall apart (especially the scene in the dungeons) and the trio turn on d'Artagnan, who decides remain faithful to the king. Yes, all of the actors are excellent in their parts, but Gabriel Byrne steals the whole show.

As for "The Musketeers BBC" I was afraid to touch this show after seeing in the trailers, but yesterday I watched the first episode and it was not as bad as I expected. The characters of the musketeers are likeable enough to keep me interested, the costumes are beautiful and what's the most important Rochefort is going to appear in the season 2 (my second favorite after d'Artagnan). I just treat is as an enjoyable fanfic, which has nothing to do with the books, just like The Man in the Iron Mask. :) What I like the most about this show that the actors potraying Aramis, Atos and also to a certain degree d'Artagnan share some appearance similarities to their counterparts from the Lester movies. :)

Yay! Feel the Barrowman love :D

I've been reading the other comments and I felt a need to discuss. I know that the new BBC series is meh and I was confused as hell by the beginning (I wasn't the murder/revenge plot) but I think that they were trying to find an angle on a beloved story which has, let's be honest, been done time and again. Tom Burke (Athos) said in an interview that of the story the beginning where D'Artagnan meets the Musketeers is the part that everyone remembers best and he was very pleased that they had gone with a fresh take. I'm not completely invested in the series but the show has enough 'moments' to make me at least willing to keep an eye on it.

Also, HUGGLES FOR JOHN SHEPPARD!! :tighthug:

Hey, have you seen Paul McGillion's show Captain Starship? I want to watch it but I can't find it anywhere :tears:

Haha yeah, well I'm not really a judge since I only watched the first 20 minutes or so... I guess one has to give it credit for being original at least. It true that the original version has been done over and over again, as with the BBC Merlin series it's not such a bad thing to try a new direction. But this time I guess it just wasn't my cup of tea... at least not enough to keep me watching... not now anyway. And I'm kind of fond of the book versions to be honest.^^ But I'm sure there are people who love it as well... but it does seem to have quietened down now.. I haven't heard anything about it since the first few weeks..

Oh, you like Stargate?! Dubble Yay for that... :happybounce: The show needs more love... and yes huggles for Sheppard! :glomp:

No I haven't... indeed I haven't even heard much about it, other than the sequence shown in A Dog's breakfast.. or I think that was it anyway. It doesn't seem to exist anywere though which is weird for there use to be at least some mention of it...

Funny how none of the Stargate actors seem to have any bigger project on hand though.. well not counting Jason Momoa who seems to have gotten a good start. I miss Joe Flanigan and David Hewlett...
Imagine my disappointment when I heard that Joe Flanigan was in my city and I didn't even know about it... OHGAWDNO.

OMG You missed out on Joe Flanigan?! Sad Hug Extended

There's a trailer for Captain Starship on Youtube (LOL Daniel Jackson's his 'nemesis') and clips from A Dog's Breakfast. I think maybe it wasn't fully made except the pilot so maybe it's buried under loads of more important Stargate-connected stuff.

Yeah, I know right? David Hewlitt had a short cameo in the first Planet of the Apes remake and he's starring in a show called State of Syn (I know nothing). Joe Flanigan and Paul McGillion (la in love ) aren't doing much nowdays; Jason Mamoa is in a tv show called The Red Road (I know nothing) and is rrumoredto be starring as Aquaman/Arthur Curry in the upcoming Justice League film.

I know right! :cries: I found out when he posted a picture o twitter of himself in a cafeteria in town, in my fav part of town were I always go... and I was like "I know this place!" :iconlegaspplz:

Yeah that's all I've seen as well.. it's weird, but it might be as you said that it never got a proper kick off.

Oh.. David Hewlet had a Plat of the Apes cameo.. Hmm I missed that movie.. I did see Paul Macgillion in Star Trek though.. for like one brief moment. I know Jason Momoa got pretty popular in Games of Thrones but then I'm not following that show either, but I can well imagine him fitting right in.=P
Justice League.. never heard of it but it sounds like something Marvel related.. am I right?

Yeah he played Karl Drogo, a big mean but cuddly horse warrior (if you Google too hard you'll hit a lot of spoilers). Game of Thrones is excellent: full of blood, gore, people you really really really wish were dead, interesting monologue and sex. Oh so much sex.

Um, kind of. Justice League is DC not Marvel: it's a group of planet-protecting superheroes who's base is a giant satellite floating around Earth. The group if led by Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman.

Lmao, yes well now you know why I don't watch it, it's exactly the kind of tv I try do avoid. I'm not overly fond of tvseries that doesn't quite know the difference between good entertainment and porn.=P

Oh well.. same thing:XD: (Obviously not a huge Marvel follower since it probably a pretty huge difference for any fan.. :P)

Sounds interesting.. but hold on Superman and Batman in one movie.. isn't that the one were Ben Affleck in Batman?=P

Sorry my last comment was so message I was on my new laptop
what I meant to say was this is so awesome that you made this, I am on the books now and I see All the Kiefer gang of the musketeers growing into the Malkovich gang.  I haven't seen the Oliver Reed gang. But as you can see Athos is my favorite musketeers

Haha that's ok I ´got the point. :lmao:

I'm reading the books now as well! :dummy: Or rather the second one.. I've read the first one some years ago.:D

I really recommend watching Oliver Reed's gang.. they are awesome! And idk about you but personally I think Oliver Reed as Athos is amazing. A bit more dark like in the books. The whole movie is more faithfull to the book then others to be honest.
My only problem is that D'Artagnan looks nothing liek waht i imagined him... for that I have Gabriel Byrne. Thought York got the characters personality down better than Byrne. Byrne lacks that impulsive, reckless and joyfull trait that D'artagnan always had, he's more like a slightly depressed D'Artagnan. :XD:
Needless to say that's my fav musketeer. :P And Porthos.. he's like a huge puppy... so strong and loyal and so very very silly. :XD:

Oh cool! :D I'm a bit further on, chapter 87.^^ What edition do you have?  I have Oxford World's Classics. ^^ They all tend to differ in translations but this one is really good.

Chapter 54.. so they're getting out of Paris right?

^^ I'm doing the audio book on librivox so I'm not entirely sure what edition Mordont just asked Cromwell if he could take Athos and Aramis prisoner. I just got all of Dumas audiobooks for Christmas.

Oh you're cheating. :XD: Haha no I'm kidding, but for me nothing beats having the book in my hand. That's half the fun of a good book.. :D

Oh no, then you're way ahead of the book chapter... in the edition Chapter 54 is when D'Artganan is helping Mazarin and the royal family escape to St Germain. :D

I just finished the whole thing this morning. So awesome.

Now I can focus on my homeexams for a while, cause the book kept distracting me no end.:P

And then I can watch the movies again. :D

Well I was aiming for the musketeers movies in genereal but actually yes there is one.. the third one with Oliver Reed though it's called The Return of the Musketeers. It's really good and Raoul is awesome in it (which is nice cause I really didn't like the Man in the Iron mask Raoul..) only pity is that Aramis isn't in it much. Apparently he quit when the actor playing Planchet died from falling of a horse.. Chamberlain portraying Aramis thought the producers didn't react properly do the incident and got out of the project..

Because when I find a good book I read for hours in a row.:P And I can't say it went fast took me over a week to finish it anyway.:XD:
Now I'm gonna wait with Vicomte de Bragelonne and La Valliere for a while.. I've already read Man in the Iron Mask (wrong order but who cares) so I know how it ends anyway. :D

I would definitely keep Michael York's gang. They have always been my favorites. Man in the Iron Mask cast second favorite.  Even though it's very different from the books, I am really enjoying the BBC show. OF course the stories are different, but I like the cast and their relationship with each other. Also (even though I like the actors, especially Matthew Macfayden) anything is better than the latest movie with Milady doing matrix moves in a corset and flying boats over France.

:lmao: I totally agree about the Hollywood version. I sort of had fun watching it because I was laughing so much.. but not so much for how the story ended up. :XD:
I kind of liked  Logan Lerman as a oyung D'Artagnan though.. I can sort of see him growing up into Gabriel Byrne's version.:P

I tried the BBC version and it seemed too odd for me.. maybe I should watch some more eps to see..

Does this mean you've seen the new TV series adaptation? My mum has been, I attempted to watch it with her but, gosh it's just so bad :XD: The guy playing Porthos is one of the worst actors I've ever seen :lmao:

I honestly tried.. I watched like the first 15 mintutes of the first episode and gave up. :P I mean it didn't feel like the three musketeers, just like a confusing action thingy. But I added it to the list because of Santiago Cabrera, loved him when he was Lancelot in Merlin. :D

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought it was terrible :XD: My parents are both big on the Musketeers so my mum's still faithfully watching it, my dad didn't go too much on it though which has to tell you something. Santiago Cabrera is fantastic :D

Definitely not...:XD: I'm very big on the musketeers too which is exactly what stopped me from wathcing it.. I hate when they ruin the books by makiíng really bad screen versions. :P

Yes he is! :dummy:

Btw I'm gonna answer the other messages, I've just been out a lot this week. We spent a whole 9 hours in the garden a few days ago.. I don't even know how that happened. :O_o: We did get to eat sausages while burning up some old wooden planks though. :D

Then we've been shopping plants and going on long walks.. I feel like such a healthy person all of a sudden, exercising and all. :XD: And then today I thought I'd look up my next archeology assignment and realized it's in a weeks time and now I'm freaking out because I thought it was at the end of the month... fail.

Every.. single..time.. I swear one of this days I'm actually gonna do it on time..

How's it going otherwise? Feeling better? :D

Oh btw I'm going on a mineral convention this week... more pretty stones! :dummy:
